NOVA ARTS | Keene, NH
Salif Bamakora, aka Gordon Hellegers, has been playing Kora for over 20 years and has been a primary student of Madou Sidiki Diabaté for over 15 years. Salif is deeply versed in the traditional repertoire, histories, and cultural practices of Mande Djeliya and has become a skilled and experienced performer in concerts around the world. As a foundational member of the world music group SIMRIT and a periodic collaborator with Estas Tonne, Bamakora continues to explore the growing edges of contemporary kora music, from original composition to spontaneous improvisation concerts.
Princess Kikou is a New Hampshire based World Beat group which draws heavily from Afro-Caribbean influences as well as Roots Rock. Made up of a core of musicians: Simon Gray on guitar, John Meehan the fifth on saxophone, Jon Tshibambi on bass, and Garth Tichy on drums, Princess Kikou also features a rotating ensemble of guest players. Blending together the globe-spanning influences of each of its members, Princess Kikou creates a unique, danceable sound, full of multi-lingual harmonies and syncopated rhythms.
We'll be starting off with the more mellow part, and then letting Princess Kikou get our bodies moving! Doors are at 7pm and music will start around 730. Seating is limited and the show is all ages.
