Ty’rone Haughton delivers a fiercely honest and lyrically rich piece that dives deep into masculinity, identity, vulnerability, and survival
About this Event

DMU Black History Month 2026:

Ahead of Men's Mental Health Month in November, the SLRC at De Montfort University is proud to present Ty’rone Haughton’s powerful one-man poetry performance: Made You Look.

Join us as this visceral and explosive show interrogates masculinity and what it means to be an immigrant in a Britain growing increasingly hostile towards minorities.

The show fuses the line between theatre and poetry, incorporating movement and visual art to create a deeply emotional, at times uncomfortable, but profoundly necessary experience.

The set doubles as a post-show exhibition, drawing out themes and references from the performance which audiences are invited to explore after the post-show reasoning, a space after the performance where audiences are invited to digest and discuss the themes of the work with the performer and each other.

This event is in partnership with the DMU Global Majority staff network, DMU School of Creative Industries and Culture and the DMU EDI Office.

This performance is supported by Arts Council England.

What did people say?

“Ty’rone made me feel — not just listen. It was emotional, real, unforgettable.”

“Refreshing, encouraging — much needed in schools and for parents.”
