A multi-media Poetry Performance by Christodoulos Makris and Máighréad Medbh
About this Event

Máighréad Medbh will perform ‘Faces for Kate’, a conceptual piece from her most recent book, Dwelling. Dwelling is a transhistorical, multi-genre exploration pivoted on a 1913 photograph of the poet’s great-grandmother. ‘Faces for Kate’ engages with various historical events and images, and ironizes AI technology.

‘The Ugly Truth’, by Christodoulos Makris, is one of four long poems constituting a new book-length work with title nobody is going to be unique: an intuition-led, hybrid-form engagement with the impact of the accelerated use of machine intelligence on human creativity, endeavour, identity, and – particularly in ‘The Ugly Truth’ – corporeality (war, sex, climate etc).

Christodoulos Makris has published five books of poetry, as well as several limited-edition pamphlets, artists’ books, digital projects, audiovisual works and other poetry objects. Recent awards include a Curatorial Commission from Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI), Dublin, and an Artist Residency at Irish Arts Center, New York. He is the poetry editor at gorse.

Máighréad Medbh is a poet, essayist, and performer, interested in historical and conceptual explorations. She has published ten books, including a poetic narrative of the Irish Famine and an ecological allegory, Parvit of Agelast, shortlisted for the 2017 Pigott Prize. She has collaborated on award-winning art films, written for radio, and has three online novels.

Macha Press is supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, and the Shared Island Civic Society Fund, managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Government of Ireland.
