Please join us as we welcome Lieutenant Colonel Blair Bozek, USAF (Retired). Blair flew the F-4 Phantom fighter as a Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) for nine years, based in Iceland, Germany, and the USA during the Cold War, followed by another nine years as a Reconnaissance Systems Officer (RSO) flying the SR-71 Blackbird worldwide (1985-1990) and in the USA (1995-1998).Blair will focus his presentation on two operational missions flying his favorite SR-71, Tail Number 974, known as “Ichiban” (“number one” or “best” in Japanese). The first mission was his White House-directed, formerly Top-Secret mission that covered halfway around the world in less than 12 hours in April 1988. The second mission was 974’s final flight in April 1989, precipitated by a catastrophic engine failure at Mach 3 (2,000mph) and 75,000 feet high.
