What began as a dream of Lyceum Founder 𝐃𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐨has flourished into an extraordinary stage of tradition and excellence. With the unwavering support of 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥, 𝐃𝐫 (𝐌𝐫𝐬) 𝐊𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐨,, Maathra was born in 2008—an annual tribute to Sri Lanka’s 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞.
It all started with a single 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 that sparked a vision—to keep Sri Lankan dance alive in the hearts of English-medium students. That vision found its champions in 𝐌𝐫 𝐑𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐤𝐚 𝐊𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐬 𝐍𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚 𝐊𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐚,who transformed Maathra into the epic celebration it is today—where passion meets tradition, and movement tells a story.
