MAAE6 - Stitch & Enrich (Full Day Session)

SESSION DESCRIPTION:

In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore a variety of different embroidery styles and techniques. Possible projects include creating a wall hanging, embroidering directly onto clothing and fabric household items brought from home, and creating an iron-on patch. We will look at embroidery and fiber art from different historical and contemporary artists in order to gain inspiration for our own art-making as well as make connections to various curricular and cross curricular outcomes.

This workshop is best suited for grade 7 to 12 classrooms, however younger artists may also be able to engage in modified versions of these techniques and practices. Come learn something new or bring a current project you are working on and get ready to stitch and enrich! All supplies are included in the price of admission; please see "Good to Know" section below for more information.

Please arrive between 8:30 - 9:00 AM to the Winnipeg Art Gallery entrance at 300 Memorial Blvd. (The old entrance with the circular lights above!) These doors will be locked shortly after 9:00 AM. WAG-Qaumajuq (the new entrance) is closed to the public until 11:00 AM.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Alison Froese Foster is a multidisciplinary artist and art educator living in Winnipeg. Having taught Kindergarten through adult learners, Alison believes that art should be accessible to everyone!
