MAAE4 - Inuit Storytelling Through Art (Full Day Session)

SESSION DESCRIPTION:

Join Rebecca McIvor and Colleen Leduc at WAG-Qaumajuq for a full day of art engagement. The focus of the day will be learning about Inuit storytelling and seeing examples of this in traditional and contemporary artwork. The day will include a discussion on storytelling, a tour of artworks in the exhibition, Ningiukulu Teevee, Stories from the Arctic, and an accessible hands-on wall hanging workshop. Teachers will have an opportunity to create their own small wall hanging.

This workshop is best suited for Early Years (Kindergarten - Grade 4) classrooms, however educators from all levels are welcome to attend.

Please arrive between 8:30 - 9:00 AM to the Winnipeg Art Gallery entrance at 300 Memorial Blvd. (The old entrance with the circular lights above!) These doors will be locked shortly after 9:00 AM. WAG-Qaumajuq (the new entrance) is closed to the public until 11:00 AM.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTORS:

Rebecca McIvor (she/her), WAG-Qaumajuq Indigenous Education Coordinator, is a multi-disciplined visual artist and arts educator with a strong focus on Indigenous and Metis History (BFA Hons, B.Ed.). Rebecca is a passionate advocate for Indigenous knowledge, decolonization and lifelong learning through arts and education. Rebecca believes that incorporating arts education throughout the wider curriculum is an important part of what we need to do to move forward in our educational experiences.

As Education & Programs Coordinator WAG-Qaumajuq, Colleen Leduc (she/her) uses her background as a practicing visual artist (BFA Hons), art educator (BEd, MA), and art therapist (CEAT, GDAT) to elevate the engagement of artwork within WAG-Qaumajuq. She is passionate about using artmaking as a tool to enhance accessibility and healing through art.
