Lyra workshop: Spanset Hip Stack Theory with Sarah Kathleen Hluchan

Let’s get above the hoop! This workshop is an introduction to the hip stack, a foundational above the hoop trick that opens up a world of flipped hoop magic and exploration.
We’ll explore how to get into this position (with or without an invert), what keeps you safe and how to easily exit. Then we’ll literally turn the lyra upside down as we move through a series of shapes (and maybe even a sneaky drop).
Pre-requisites: at least 6 months of consistent lyra practice (doesn’t need to be single point!); solid knee
hang, comfortable working above the hoop, comfort holding a bent arm hang for 5 seconds; solid hip hang and some knowledge of single hip hangs.
Be aware – this workshop involves placing the spanset against your hip flexor and can be a little pinchy!

About your teacher: Sarah Kathleen Hluchan is an aerial hoop coach who empowers students to create a practice they love.
Flying trapeze was her circus gateway drug, but aerial hoop is the circle of steel that has kept her fascinated for over a decade. Sarah’s extensive circus education spans from Washington, DC to Costa Rica and includes teacher training with Paper Doll Militia and an aerial residency at Casa Chango, Mexico. She built her practice by trying, failing, and exploring. When she got tired of fitting her body into someone else’s tricks, she started building her own. Her teaching practice centers on exploring aerial theory and dynamic progressions. She is passionate about helping her students to make informed decisions to build an aerial practice that brings them joy.
Sarah coaches weekly lyra classes at Monarca in Flight in Falls Church, VA. She also offers specialty deep dive workshops to share her favorite things and give her an excuse to wander the east coast. She is forever finding new and creative ways to lie on her back.
Sarah is based out of Alexandria, VA, but desperately misses the ocean.
