LYDIA LUNCH: MURDEROUS...AGAIN
Murderous…Again – combines the dynamic spoken word of Lydia Lunch with the psycho-ambient jazz noir of Tim Dahl & Matt Nelson to create an intimate evening of provocative musical poetry.
When the Covid 19 quarantine placed New York City in a state of suspended animation, Lydia Lunch summoned bassist Tim Dahl who regularly performs live with Lydia’s band RETROVIRUS and saxophone virtuoso / sound manipulator Matt Nelson to collaborate on Murderous…Again a truly unique fusion of psycho-ambient jazz noir and hypnotic musical poetry.
Lydia Lunch has been touring in a variety of mediums since 1977.
In 1982 she began performing and curating spoken word shows in NYC at The Pyramid, The Knitting Factory, The Kitchen, The Performing Garage, La Mama, The Roxy Hotel, and numerous other venues. She has appeared live with John Giorno, Hubert Selby Jr, Karen Finley, Jerry Stahl, Wanda Coleman, Henry Rollins, and Last Poet Umar Bin Hassan to name a few, often arranging shows and booking tours throughout America, Europe and Australia. She has presented workshops for writers throughout the USA and Europe, where she continues to tour with both music and spoken word.
Tim Dahl is a composer and professional electric and double bass player, vocalist, keyboardist and composer living in New York City. He is best known as the front man and bass player of the noise-rock band Child Abuse and the defunct avant-jazz group The Hub. He also writes and performs for the jazz ensemble Pulverize The Sound. Dahl has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Japan and performed with many notable musicians, composers and performers including Yusef Lateef, Archie Shepp, Eugene Chadbourne, John Zorn, Marc Ribot, and Elliot Sharpe.
Saxophonist Matt Nelson regularly performs in a far-reaching, motley assortment of musical projects. Described as “one of the more unpredictable virtuosos in New York’s underground” by Pitchfork and “genre-bending” by Tiny Mix Tapes, his output often lies in the gray corners beyond categorization.
Upon graduation from the Oberlin Conservatory, Matt moved back to his native Bay Area and became an active member in the music community there, where he performed regularly with various experimental outfits including tUnE-yArDs with whom he recorded and toured extensively in support of their acclaimed album ‘ who K*ll”. Matt now resides in Brooklyn and continues to work with various experimental musicians.
