About this Event
Luzmira Zerpa presents: A Day of the Dead Celebration
Featuring Bolivian, Colombian Latin Traditions
Step into a night of music, memory and spirit a celebration of life and death, where ancestral rhythms meet modern soul.
Join us to honour the souls of those who have departed, embracing the beauty of remembrance through sound, ritual and collective joy.
Guiding the evening is Luzmira Zerpa Venezuelan singer, songwriter, healer and guardian of ancient song traditions. With a voice that bridges worlds, Luzmira invites us into a sacred space where grief transforms into gratitude and loss becomes light.
A founding member of Family Atlantica (Soundway Records), Luzmira's performances weave Venezuelan and Latin folk traditions with African rhythms, Afrobeat and more
The evening also welcomes Sikuris Sin Fronteras, a London-based collective of Bolivian musicians dedicated to sharing the rich, living traditions of the Andes. Their music carries the echo of the mountains the sound of the siku, a panpipe whose breath connects humanity to the wind, the land, and the sacred.
In their ceremonies, they honour Pachamama, Mother Earth, in songs of fertility, renewal and reverence reminders that life, even in its passing, continues in every rhythm of nature. Their performances unite people of all backgrounds through the power of collective music-making, inspired by the ancient tropas, ensembles where dozens of sikuris breathe as one.
We’ll also be joined by Fernando Gomez, bringing the vibrant sounds of Son Jarocho from Veracruz and the soulful traditions of Oaxaca, Mexico — a heartfelt celebration of rhythm, roots, and community.
And as the night deepens, DJ Carlitos Niño from Colombia will weave his magic behind the decks — spinning a vibrant tapestry of Cumbia, Tropical Bass, Afro-Latin roots, Salsa Brava, Folktronica, Funk, Disco, Urban Dembow and Global Beats.
Short film screening - A Tear in the Veil - was conceived as a response to the Covid epidemic and inspired by the Day of the Dead as a celebration of life in death. It explores this theme through a combination of shadow puppetry and live action bringing together these two worlds at the point of intersection.
Bring your flowers, photos and offerings to add to our community altar a shared space of love and remembrance.
Together, we’ll celebrate the cycle of life, dancing with the ancestors, and breathing new light into old traditions.
