Join us for a journey through the heart of Luton's heritage. From the grand estate of Luton Hoo to bustling George Street, the town’s story is one of rapid change and enduring community. This conference explores the diverse forces that contributed to modern Luton: the arrival of the railways, the industrial might of Vauxhall, and the powerful influence of church patronage on our social history. Discover the stories that have shaped the Luton we know today.
Four speakers with illustrated talks:
· Luton Made: Vauxhall is a heritage project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, celebrating the history of Vauxhall, the car manufacturer, here in Luton.
· The History of George Street, Luton’s Town Centre
· The Leigh Family at Luton Hoo and Their Involvement in the Railways to Luton
· The power of church patronage to shape the social history of a town, 1763-1896
