MEET THE PERFORMERS
SwingTime will feature popular and influential American songs and jazz standards from the 20th century, music that has stood the test of time. Created by beloved composers like Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Cole Porter, enjoy some of our favorites from “The Great American Songbook.”
Clark Chaffee (drums and vocals) is a music educator who directs the Surprise Pops Band, the West Valley Wind Ensemble, the Sun Cities Community Orchestra, and is the timpanist for the Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra.
Ellie Chaffee (vocals) sings with the Sun City All-Stars Big Band and her own trio. She provides the concert narration for five West Valley ensembles.
Dan Reed (trumpet) is a former Princess Cruise Line music director who now plays regularly with a number of Valley bands and performers.
Beth Lederman (Piano) is a mainstay of the Phoenix jazz and Latin music scenes. She leads several groups and is also passionate about music education.
L UNCHTIME THEATER
Lunchtime Theater is a seasonal musical and theater performance program offered to enrich the community of the West Valley. Presented by the West Valley Arts Council and hosted at the Arts HQ Gallery, it is a unique, diverse, and intimate experience among the visual and performing arts. Surrounded by gallery artwork, Arizona talent from local jazz groups to the West Valley Symphony's string quartet perform in an afternoon 1-hour show once a month from October-April. Ticket reservations are required in advance, and complementary soft drinks will be provided by the Credit Union West of Surprise, AZ. Attendees are welcome to bring their own lunch or go out and support one of the many local restaurants in Surprise before or after the concert.
Open seating begins at 11:30am, and each performance runs 12noon-1pm. (623) 584-2626 for more information.
The Arts HQ Gallery is located at 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza, Ste 102, in Surprise, AZ just north of the Surprise City Hall. Free parking on either side of the one-story building. The entrance is on the west side. Additional parking in the adjacent City Court parking lot.
