Lunchtime Talk: Collections and Repatriation
About this Event
As noted by the Museums Association the return of objects can be a powerful cultural, spiritual and symbolic act which recognises past wrongs. It can help foster cultural justice and contribute towards healing for diaspora and source communities. Museums are increasingly recognising their moral responsibilities around unethically acquired cultural heritage, and the last few years have seen an increase in numbers of returns. Rachel considers the often complex and lengthy processes involved, and discusses the progress made so far by Sheffield Museums.
