Mahya Mahroomi is an Iranian pianist, performer, and educator whose work focuses on building artistic dialogue between Western classical music and contemporary Persian musical traditions. She began her musical studies at a young age and later studied Piano Performance at the University of Tehran before moving to the UK to complete her Master’s degree in Music Performance at the University of Chichester. Alongside her performance career, she is actively involved in teaching and collaborative projects, working with composers and musicians across different cultural backgrounds.
Mahya is actively dedicated to showcasing music from her homeland and introducing contemporary Iranian composers to wider international audiences. Her projects explore the connection between Eastern and Western musical languages, presenting Persian modes, rhythms, and poetic sensibilities through the framework of classical piano performance. Her most recent concert took place in April at the Daylight Music concert series for Piano Day, where she performed a recent collaborative project with an Iranian composer. In June, she will perform at the Festival of Chichester in a programme centred around an Iranian-classical theme, combining Western classical repertoire with Persian contemporary music and highlighting the dialogue between the two traditions.
Through solo recitals, premieres, and interdisciplinary collaborations, Mahya continues to establish herself as a performer committed to cultural exchange and contemporary artistic expression. Her concerts often feature newly written works by Iranian composers alongside classical repertoire by composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin, creating programmes that reflect both her Persian heritage and her classical training. As both a pianist and collaborator, she aims to bring new voices and underrepresented musical perspectives to the concert stage while creating meaningful connections between audiences, composers, and traditions.
Laleh Abbasi is a passionate Ney performer with more than 15 years of deep dedication to Persian classical music.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Iranian Music from the University of Guilan, and she studies a Master of Music in Teaching at the University of Chichester. In addition to mastering the Ney, she has also trained in piano, solfège, harmony, and counterpoint.
Her musical journey has been recognised with several national awards, including 2nd and 3rd Place in Ney Solo at the Youth Festival (2013 & 2014) and 2nd Place with Hengam Ensemble at the ART Music Festival (2020).
Laleh has brought her expressive playing to audiences worldwide, performing at notable venues and festivals such as the Ney and Setar duet at St Ethelburga’s in London (2026), the Ney and Harp duet at the Boysun Bahori Festival in Uzbekistan (2026), Mehr Ayin Ensemble in Ankara (2023), and Hengam Ensemble at Niavaran Hall in Tehran (2020), along with many heartfelt concerts across Iran.
