Event Photos

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Daniel Lei is currently a dizi (Chinese transverse bamboo flute) instructor at SOAS University of London, and was the London Horniman Museum musician-in-residence in 2024. He is reading for a DPhil in music at Merton College, Oxford University, with a concentration on Western music in the Sinosphere. Elected as a Fellow of Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland in 2024, his research focuses on musical cosmopolitanism and performativity of music, which have resulted in a lecture recital “Chinese Concerto: My Humble Views” in Hong Kong (2021), a descriptive text for the exhibition Music in Facsimile in The University of Hong Kong Music Library (2021), and a video project (2023) produced by Goldsmiths College, University of London, featuring a revival of Luding He’s The Shepherd’s Piccolo (1937/1957).
