🎶✨Next on the lineup is RiverCity Sidemen, a young and talented jazz band from Quadra, Campbell River, and Courtney!
The RiverCity Sidemen are a dynamic jazz ensemble made up of recent high school graduates and university jazz students from the communities of Quadra Island, Campbell River, and Courtenay. Blending youthful energy with serious musical talent, the group explores the vibrant sounds of jazz fusion and funk while bringing a fresh perspective to contemporary jazz performance.
The band features Jake Elias on saxophone, Willum Ashurst on keyboards and drums, and AJ Lontayao on drums, guitar, and electric bass. United by a shared love of groove-driven jazz, the trio draws inspiration from the rich traditions of fusion and funk while developing their own distinctive sound.
The RiverCity Sidemen were honored to be selected as the “2023 Discovery Band” at the Nanaimo International Jazz Festival, and they also performed at the Campbell River Jazz and Blues Festival in 2024. These opportunities helped introduce the group to wider audiences across Vancouver Island.
Now, the Sidemen are excited to be back performing together, bringing their tight grooves, improvisational spirit, and infectious enthusiasm to the stage once again. 🎸🎶
