I Student Project Presentations: Victoria Community Research
About this Event

Join our May Lunch and Learn at
This session is a project celebration and presentation featuring students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), a STEM university based in Massachusetts with over 50 years of experience developing research projects around the world. This year marks the first time WPI students have worked in Victoria, partnering with three local organizations: Capital Bike, the Victoria Downtown Residents Association, and LampPost Social.
These interdisciplinary projects are a core part of WPI’s third-year program, bringing students beyond their primary fields of study to explore the intersection of technology and society. The work is grounded in real community needs, offering practical insights and recommendations shaped by research, collaboration, and lived context.
Each project responds directly to priorities identified by the partner organizations, aiming to provide thoughtful, useful analysis that supports a more connected and resilient downtown Victoria.
What you’ll experience:

Three 12-minute presentations from student teams sharing their research and findings on:
• Bike lane perception in Victoria
• The feasibility of a rooftop community garden
• Community connection and approaches to reducing social isolation
About the program:
WPI’s Global Projects Program connects students with organizations around the world to work on real-world challenges. These projects integrate technical knowledge with qualitative research, encouraging students to think critically, work collaboratively, and engage with the complexity of community-based work.

For more information on the program visit WPI’s Global Projects page. To learn more about collaborating on a project in 2027 or for links to the full reports, contact Melissa Belz, [email protected]

Tea and coffee provided. Bring your own lunch.
Our venue is wheelchair accessible and includes gender neutral washrooms.
