About this Event
Come and meet our neighbor, Peter Howitt, Nobel Prize Laureate in Economic Sciences. Peter will share the story of his journey toward this momentous milestone—not as a tale of sudden achievement, but as a life shaped by curiosity, patience, and a deep commitment to the work itself. Along the way, he will reflect on what it means to flourish, how discovery is often nurtured in community, and the quiet good that comes from offering one’s gifts in service of others. This conversation invites us to consider how meaningful work, sustained over time, can become a source of purpose not only for ourselves, but for the wider world.
More information about Peters work: Over the last two centuries, the world has seen sustained economic growth. However, this was not always the case. In fact it was quite the opposite – in the past there was often stagnation. Peter Howitt and Philippe Aghion studied the mechanisms behind sustained growth. In 1992, they presented a mathematical model for what is called creative destruction: when a new and better product enters the market, the companies selling the older products lose out. Creative destruction creates conflicts that must be managed in a constructive manner so that innovation will not be blocked.
