Our Fall program celebrates the heart of Marinus Concerts: creating beautiful music among friends and sharing its power to bring light into our lives. Anchored by Mozart and Schumann's Piano Quartet's both in E-Flat, this music traces the evolution of the piano quartet as a genre, and reflects the depth of human experience through brilliance, achingly beautiful romanticism, and carefree joy.
Performed by stellar artists including Ieva Jokubavičiūtė (hailed by the New York Times as "an artist of commanding technique, refined temperament and persuasive insight"), Harriet Langley (“powerful yet nuanced playing”- ClassicConcert Paris), Rachel Kuipers Yonan ("intimate and full of character" -BBC Music Magazine), and Joseph Kuipers ("One of the rare musical voices of today"- Berliner Abend Post).

The program opens with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, K. 493, a work of effortless elegance and radiant lyricism that helped define the piano quartet as a genre. Its refined conversation among the four instruments reveals Mozart at the height of his expressive powers, balancing brilliance with warmth and wit.
From there, we encounter gorgeous slow movement from Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in C Minor, Op. 66 (1845). Written only two years before his untimely death, the trio was the last large-scale chamber work Mendelssohn completed.
The evening culminates in Robert Schumann's Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 47, one of the crowning achievements of the Romantic chamber music repertoire. Composed during Schumann's celebrated "chamber music year" of 1842, the quartet overflows with soaring melodies, passionate dialogue, and moments of profound intimacy. From the tender Andante cantabile to the exhilarating finale, Schumann transforms four individual voices into a tapestry of extraordinary beauty and emotional power.

Lithuanian pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute's powerfully intricate performances have led critics to describe her as possessing "razor-sharp intelligence and wit" (The Washington Post) and as "an artist of commanding technique, refined temperament, and persuasive insight" (The New York Times). In 2006, she was honored as a recipient of a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship.
In 2021, Sono Luminus released Ms. Jokubaviciute’s latest recording, Northscapes, featuring works by twenty-first-century composers from the Nordic and Baltic countries of Europe. Gramophone magazine described it as “a fascinating, well-balanced programme, played with engrossingly undemonstrative virtuosity… Jokubaviciute navigates the contrasting demands of each work with hugely impressive skill.”
Jokubaviciute’s recital programs and recording projects bring her to major stages across the US and Europe. She made her orchestral debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival and has since performed concerti with orchestras in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Montevideo, Uruguay; Washington, DC; and Fargo, ND.
A highly sought-after chamber musician and collaborator, Ieva appears on major stages throughout North America and tours extensively in Europe, Japan, India, and South America. She regularly performs at international music festivals, including Marlboro, Ravinia, Chesapeake Chamber Music, Prussia Cove in Cornwall, England, and the Festival de la Musique de Chambre at La Lointaine in France. Recently, she participated at the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, VT; Seattle Chamber Music Festival; Festival Mozaic in San Luis Obispo, CA; and the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival at East Carolina University. She is a founding member of Trio Cavatina, a winner of the Naumburg International Chamber Music Competition.
Earning degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and from Mannes College of Music in New York City, her principal teachers have been Seymour Lipkin and Richard Goode. Ieva is currently Professor of the Practice of Music at Duke University in Durham, NC, where she has been a faculty member since 2020. Previously, Ieva was Associate Professor, Piano at Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA.
Korean-Australian violinist Harriet Langley is an accomplished soloist and chamber musician who has performed with orchestras such as the London Chamber, Verbier Festival, Sinfonia Varsovia, Vienna Chamber, Gyeonggi Philharmonic, Belgian National Orchestra, Reno Philharmonic, etc. Laureate of competitions including Leopold Mozart, Yehudi Menuhin, Tibor Varga, Andrea Postacchini, her discography includes Vieuxtemps Concerto No. 7 and Saint-Saëns Pieces with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège. Festival appearances include Seiji Ozawa Music Academy in Switzerland, Ravinia, YellowBarn, and International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove. She has collaborated with such artists as Gary Hoffman, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Philippe Graffin, Mihaela Martin, Donald Weilerstein, Frans Helmerson, Joseph Kalichstein, Robert McDonald, Laurence Lesser, Midori Goto, and Menahem Pressler.
She is a founding member of the Terra String Quartet, a vibrant young ensemble based in New York City. They are the winner of the 2025 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition, and laureates of the Wigmore, Melbourne, Osaka and Banff International Competitions.
Harriet has studied with Augustin Dumay at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth of Belgium, with Josef Rissin at the Karlsruhe Hochschule fur Musik in Germany, with Patinka Kopec and Pinchas Zukerman at the Manhattan School of Music and at the New England Conservatory, where she received her bachelor’s degree as a student of Miriam Fried and Lucy Chapman. She completed her Master’s degree at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Catherine Cho, Daniel Phillips and Donald Weilerstein, and upon graduation was bestowed the prestigious William Schuman Prize for outstanding achievement and leadership in music.
Grammy Award-winning violinist Henry William Wang has been praised by the Washington Post as an artist "that makes the audience cheer lustily." A native of St. Louis, he has appeared as soloist with orchestras throughout the United States.
Currently based in New York, Henry serves as Concertmaster of Metropolis Ensemble, the Grammy Award-winning Experiential Orchestra, and The Orchestra San Antonio. He is a substitute violinist with the New York Philharmonic and performs regularly with New York Classical Players, Trinity Wall Street NOVUS ensemble, Quodlibet Ensemble, and the Manhattan Chamber Players. His solos can be heard on the Grammy Award-winning album The Pr*son on the Chandos label.
Henry is a graduate of The Juilliard School, where he studied with Glenn Dicterow. He continued his studies with Mr. Dicterow and Lisa Kim in the Orchestral Performance Program at Manhattan School of Music, and earned his Bachelor of Music at Northwestern University under Almita and Roland Vamos.
Active beyond the classical realm, Henry regularly collaborates with jazz legends including Steve Coleman and Billy Childs. He has appeared on recordings by the Roots, on the television program America's Got Talent, and on soundtracks for films including Barbie, Joker, and In the Heights.
Recognized for her the “directness and depth of her playing” (Gramophone), RACHEL YONAN enjoys a rich and varied career as recitalist, artistic director, commentator and champion of chamber music. She has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in concert halls across the United States, England, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and China; and recently on NPR and Canadian Public Radio and BBC Radio3. Critics hailed her debut album Kiss on Wood as “haunting, beautiful music, beautifully played and recorded” (Bill Dodd, Native DSD). Ms. Yonan has been invited to perform at prestigious festivals such as the Marlboro Music Festival, Open Chamber Music Prussia Cove, Festival Mozaic and Taos Music Festival. Yonan has collaborated with Itzhak Perlman, Roberto Díaz, Joseph Silverstein, James Dunham and Robert Levin; and recently joined the Dover and Escher Quartets for chamber concerts. Integrating her interest in music and philosophy, she is Visiting Scholar at Jesus College, University of Cambridge where her scholarship focuses on the role of music in personal formation and flourishing. Rachel is Creative Director of Marinus Ensemble and Concerts (hailed as “perfectly balanced” by the Philadelphia Inquirer), and taught viola performance and chamber music at Duke University.
Joseph Kuipers is an American cellist, educator, and arts innovator whose career bridges performance, teaching, and cultural leadership. Raised in a musical family, he pursued advanced studies across the United States and Europe, working with Paul Katz, Bernard Greenhouse, Michael Flaksman, Thomas Demenga, and Rainer Schmidt, with additional influence from Anner Bylsma and Richard Aaron.
Renowned for his versatility on modern and gut strings, Kuipers is committed to programs that connect historical performance practice with the music of today. He has appeared at major international festivals including Aspen, Ravinia, Festival International du Domaine Forget, Kronberg Academy, Ascoli Piceno Festival, Carl Orff Festival, and the World Cello Congress, and has collaborated closely with composers such as Arvo Pärt, Heinz Holliger, Helmut Lachenmann, and Robert Cogan.
As Creative Director of Texas Cellos, Kuipers has expanded the organization’s artistic vision to include Texas Cello School, TexasCellos SESSIONS, Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra, and the Fredericksburg Music Festival and School, advancing Texas Cellos’ mission to enrich communities through music, education, and creative collaboration.
