Luminara Piano Duo - Echoes of Spain [St Cyprian's, Clarence Gate London]

Yet in the early twentieth century, French composer Maurice Ravel found his own unique way of portraying Spain through music. Although born in France, Ravel’s mother came from the Basque region of Spain. Spanish culture, dance rhythms, and folk traditions remained a profound source of inspiration throughout his life and are deeply woven into many of his works.

In Rapsodie espagnole, Ravel paints a vivid and enchanting musical portrait of Spain through dazzling orchestral colours and evocative imagery. Meanwhile, Daphnis et Chloé Suite No. 2, though inspired by an ancient Greek pastoral romance, reveals Ravel’s unparalleled mastery of orchestral colour, atmosphere, and sonic imagination, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest orchestral achievements of the twentieth century.

Supported by the Instituto Cervantes, the cultural institution of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Classical-D Music artist Luminara Piano Duo appeared in the special concert series Ecos de España (“Echoes of Spain”), celebrating Spanish culture through Ravel’s richly coloured and poetic musical world.

Music knows no borders, and the echoes of culture continue to resonate across time and place.
