Rumba Jam with Daymé Arocena
Led by acclaimed Cuban vocalist and composer Daymé Arocena, the Rumba Jam highlights and explores the powerful traditions of Cuban rumba.
The evening begins with a 30-minute rumba dance lesson led by Dailyn Martinez, introducing the essential movements, rhythms, and cultural context of styles such as guaguancó and yambú.
From there, a core ensemble of rumberos and band members will lay down the Afro-Cuban groove, drawing from traditional repertoire while creating space for spontaneity. Musicians, singers, percussionists, and dancers are invited to join in as the session unfolds and the jam deepens.
La Rumba is an opportunity to connect through rhythm, voice, and movement, and to experience rumba as it lives: communal, responsive, and deeply rooted in Afro-Cuban culture.

Dayme Arocena
Grammy-nominated and Juno Award-winning Afro-Cuban singer, composer, and choir director Daymé Arocena is a powerful voice in contemporary Latin music.
Celebrated for her genre-blending creativity and deep connection to her Cuban roots, Arocen's 2024 album, Alkemi, marked a bold reinvention of her sound, blending neo-soul, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, and modern pop in collaboration with renowned producer Eduardo Cabra and featuring guest vocals by Vicente García and Rafa Pabön. A track from that album, “A Fuego Lento,” received a Latin Grammy nomination for Song of the Year.
