Jacqueline Valenzuela (b. 1997, East Los Angeles, CA) is a Mexican American interdisciplinary artist whose work explores memory, devotion, femininity, and identity through the visual language of Chicano lowrider culture. Valenzuela’s practice merges traditional fine art materials with automotive finishes, faux fur, velvet, rhinestones, gold leaf, and found objects, creating richly layered surfaces that function as contemporary altars, memorials, and sites of storytelling. Influenced by rasquachismo, Catholic visual traditions, and Chicanofuturist thought, her work positions decoration not as ornament but as a language capable of carrying personal and collective histories. She received a BFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University, Long Beach, and is currently pursuing an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her work has been exhibited throughout California in museums, galleries, and public spaces, including the Bakersfield Museum of Art, Petersen Automotive Museum, Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center, California Center for the Arts Escondido, and Brand Library & Art Center. Through her work, Valenzuela creates spaces where cultural memory, personal narrative, and community histories converge, honoring the beauty, resilience, and complexity of everyday life.
