LOW BOYS // SUMMER BABE // HOT CHICKEN SALADLow Boys’ melodic bass lines, punishing drums, chiming riffs, and full-throated bellowing combine into a searing, soaring, scabrous, serrated death blues. Take two parts 90s Pacific Northwest indie (Modest Mouse, Unwound, Lync), one part late 70s CBGB’s post-punk, add a nasty misanthropic streak (Jesus Lizard, Afghan Whigs), stir aggressively.
Hot Chicken Salad are a Heavy Fuzz Core 3 piece band hailing from Victoria BC, featuring an alternative artful hardcore sound with aggressive vocals. Sounds like a mix of idles, chat pile and Mars Volta. Their unique brand of entertainment fuses angular riffs, crushing grooves and drum gymnastics.
Playing fuzzed out grunge riffage from just the tip of Vancouver Island, Summer Babe are Victoria's longest-running band. Now 30% heavier.
