Loving Justice: The Colonialism Antidote by Dr Cindy Blackstock
In 2016, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal found Canada responsible for discriminating against First Nations children and ordered it to stop. Canada didn’t and First Nations and children of all diversities worked together to force Canada to do better resulting in billions of new services, and new hope, for First Nations children. This presentation shares what we learned about love, justice, children, and ourselves as we cut links in the colonial chain.
Biography: Dr Cindy Blackstock
Dr Cindy Blackstock, Gitxsan, is honoured to serve as the Executive Director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society and a professor at McGill University's School of Social Work. A recipient of the 2023 World Children's Prize, Dr Blackstock is honoured to work with First Nations colleagues and children on a historic human rights case substantiating Canada's discrimination in First Nations child and family services and Jordan's Principle. This ongoing case has garnered over $25B in new services for First Nations children and their families and $23.4B in compensation.
