Love Flows and The Wilder Frome

The Severn Vale Catchment Partnership invites you to an evening celebrating the Stroud River Frome!

Our second annual community event will feature Love Flows, a film by the World Fish Migration Foundation, plus an introduction and Q&A with the narrator and co-creator Joshua Royte. We will also be sharing presentations showing positive change that’s happened on the river Frome so far, and conversations about how we can work as a community to protect and improve our river together.

Optional further donations accepted and all proceeds used to purchase litter picking and river clean up equipment for use by charities and community groups on the river Frome, directly supporting the Wilder Frome Vision.

Why is the Frome important?

The river Frome is one of the highest quality rivers in the Severn Vale. 50km long with several significant tributaries flowing from the Cotswold escarpment, it is also arguably the most important river in our area for migratory fish – particularly salmonids and eels swimming up the Severn Estuary to complete their lifecycles. However, it faces multiple challenges for both wildlife and people: the many barriers created during the industrial heritage of the Stroud valleys block passage for fish moving along the river along with property flooding, water resources issues, and lack of wetland connectivity are the major issues on this watercourse.

In 2023, the Wilder Frome Project Development Group co-authoured a vision for the Frome. Together we highlighted 8 environmental priorities and outlined a strategy to tackle them, this became the Vision and Strategic Action Plan for the River Frome.

Love Flows, the first documentary about World Fish Migration Day

Capturing the stories of a few of the events from World Fish Migration Day 2018 through the narration of Joshua Royte, a conservation scientist for The Nature Conservancy, this film highlights our evolved understanding of the impacts of dams and the people who are working to make positive differences for rivers. It aims to give these fish and the rivers they depend on a voice by showcasing the celebrations, knowledge, and great visions we have for our rivers.

Our host, Stroud Brewery:

Initially the brewery was a passion project for our founder Greg Pilley; an adventurer, environmentalist and beer lover. His purpose was simply to make great tasting beers for the local community whilst being the change he wanted to see in the business world.

Today Stroud Brewery is a thriving enterprise and our tap room has become one of Stroud’s cherished local landmarks. We make great tasting, ethical and organic beer and we create welcoming, fun social spaces.
