Louisville Environmental Justice Bus Tour

Environmental Justice bus tours feature an interactive discussion as we drive through the West End of Louisville, which is – not coincidentally – home to both Louisville’s largest pollution challenges and its poorest and most marginalized citizens. This tour will open your eyes to environmental justice issues right here in our city.

This year, 2025, marks a Jubilee Year for the Catholic Church, in which we are called to be “Pilgrims of Hope”. It is also the 10th Anniversary of Pope Francis’ Encyclical, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. In his encyclical, the Pope reminds us that “a true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.”

In recognition of both these themes, we invite you to participate in an Environmental Justice Tour, led by Tim Darst from the Passionist Earth & Spirit Center. This tour will feature an interactive discussion as we drive through the West End of Louisville, which is – not coincidentally – home to both Louisville’s largest pollution challenges and its poorest and most marginalized citizens. This tour will open your eyes to environmental justice issues right here in our city.

The tour will begin at 8:30 am on Thursday, March 20, at the Maloney Center,1200 S Shelby St, 40203 where you can park in the lot shared with Sojourn Church before boarding the bus. We will return back to the Maloney Center by 11:30 am.
