Louie's 28th Last Regatta
Advertisement
One last race before the season closes.
Louie's started in 1999 when a group of Milwaukee sailors decided a bar on the river counted as a yacht club. Twenty-eight years later it's still the same idea. No club membership required. No rating certificate required. Every boat from a dinghy to a 70-footer races together, and every finisher wins its class.
Racing starts at noon on Milwaukee Bay, outside the breakwater. The shoreside celebration follows at South Shore Yacht Club, and it's as much the point as the race is. Costumes encouraged.
Every dollar goes to Children's Wisconsin.
THE WEEKEND
Friday, September 25 at 6 p.m. is the Skipper's Meeting at South Shore Yacht Club. That's where you pick up your packet, your section flag, and your swag. Send a crew member if you can't make it yourself.
Saturday racing starts at noon. Nothing goes off after 3 p.m.
Then everyone comes ashore. South Shore Yacht Club hosts the post-race celebration, with the Mount Gay rum pour, the bucket drawing, the live auction, the costume contest, and awards. Overnight dockage is available in the horseshoe for registered boats.
HOW TO REGISTER
Skippers register at $150, which creates your boat's team. Crew and shore crew register free. Not racing at all? Come to the party anyway, no registration needed.

Thanks to South Shore Yacht Club for hosting the weekend, to Mount Gay Rum for the rum pour, and to media partner Audacy for bringing Louie's to the airwaves.
