About the Film
Los Canadienses (The Canadians) is a 1976 National Film Board (NFB) documentary about the Canadian volunteers who joined the International Brigades who fought fascism in the Spanish Civil War. This screening is part of a series of events surrounding the exhibition Art is a Weapon: Revolutionary and Antifascist Posters from Spain 1936–39 organized by the Education for Liberation Collective at Gongfu Bao Restaurant (365 Bank Street). It features reproductions of 25 breathtaking archival posters from 1930s Spain as well as reproductions of artefacts from Canada's antifascist Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion.
