An architectural appreciation tour looking at some well-designed Victorian and early 20th century housing developments
About this Event

See a variety of well-designed social housing developments in the Upper Street area.

We'll visit impressive Victorian, Edwardian and pre-WWII dwellings made possible by innovative benefactors and independent housing trusts as well as early London County Council estates and Islington council's more recent schemes. It's a delightful route that always surprises.

Find out how the philanthropists could afford these donations, learn about the architects behind the schemes, and see how these cleverly-designed and solidly-built constructions continue to evoke a sense of pride and well-being.

Customer feedback:"Jane's passion for the subject matter shone through with humour, perception, humanity and fascinating detail. I'd highly recommend this walk and I will certainly be looking to do some more with her." / "It was an eye-opener as even though I have lived in Islington for over 20 years I had never ventured into these estates and had no idea how lovely they are. Thanks" / "Mum and I really enjoyed this tour and will be attending more of your walks soon" / "I was amazed!" / "It was so lovely to re-visit Islington with a fresh eye" / More feedback here

My guiding style is inclusive, open and friendly. I design and research every tour myself – in fact, the research never ends. The walks and talks I offer are all on subjects that intrigue me and each one highlights a different facet of my personality. I am particularly interested in the architecture of our ever-changing streets and the little details on and above them. For more information, please visit www.janeslondonwalks.com
