Desire and Direction in Discipleship
The Christian life is all about self-denial, isn't it?
The more you starve your desires, the holier you will be — at least, that’s the message we’re often sold. But C. S. Lewis argued that, from God’s point of view, your problem isn’t that you desire too much. It’s that you do not desire enough. In this talk, we’ll ask whether that’s right. Instead of struggling to rid yourself of all longing, it may be time to see your longings as signposts and to start paying attention to where they’re all pointing.
