'Longest Way Round, Shortest Way Home' on The Old Liffey Ferry

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is partnering with Dublin Port Company on Longest Way Round, Shortest Way Home, two solo exhibitions by Yuri Pattison and Liliane Puthod at The Pumphouse, surrounded by the active logistical operations of a thriving city port.

Meeting at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, the tour will start with a brief introduction. Walking over the Ha’penny bridge, the tour will board the historic Old Liffey Ferry No.11, once known as the Dockers Ferry for its many years of service bringing hard working people to and from work across the River Liffey. The ferry will journey along the quays, through historical, financial and cultural areas to the industrial heritage zone of Dublin Port. Continuing on foot to The Pumphouse, visitors will be given an introduction of Longest Way Round, Shortest Way Home, two site-specific exhibitions by artists Yuri Pattison and Liliane Puthod.

Yuri Pattison’s site-specific installation, dream sequence, is located in the disused 1950s Pump House No. 2, made accessible to the public for the first time. The former graving docks, where ships were repaired and maintained, is the site of Liliane Puthod’s Beep Beep artwork. A commission by each artist will be on view in the gallery window in the city centre location.

This is an open top passenger ferry trip on an historic vessel, travelling down the River Liffey. Lifejackets are not necessary to wear but are provided on the ferry. Total walking time is approximately 15–20 minutes.

The tour will end at The Pumphouse, Dublin Port, which is a 10–15 minute walk from The Luas and other public transport options.
