The Longest Night service provides a space of quiet reflection and comfort for those who find the holiday season difficult because of grief, illness, loneliness or loss. Sometimes called a “Blue Christmas” service, it acknowledges that not everyone comes to Christmas with joy and celebration.This year’s Longest Night service will be held Sunday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. at Living Faith Baptist Fellowship, 951 West Park Road in Elizabethtown.
The service is marked by music, scripture readings of lament and hope, prayers for healing, and the lighting of candles to symbolize Christ’s light shining in the darkness. It is a reminder that the God, who came as a child in Bethlehem, also comes to sit with us in sorrow, bringing peace and hope even in the longest night.
The Longest Night service is sponsored by Living Faith Baptist Fellowship and the Spiritual Care Department of Baptist Health Hardin.
