Long Story Short EP

With a long friendship, Chris and Dan formed The Long Shorts in early 2022 with a healthy back catalogue of old songs from previous bands and new ones written at sporadic jam sessions. Soon it became a vehicle for Chris' lyric writing, and songs were arranged together and expanded during a series of late night rehearsals when time allowed.
Playing live encouraged Chris and Dan to both commit to more regular gigging and the pursuit of opportunities for original and acoustic acts. While keen to get into the studio, they prioritised performance first to tighten up the songs and the musicianship. By spring of 2024 both agreed that it was time to record and The Long Shorts began planning their first release.
Choosing a selection of their earliest songs to showcase the origin of their acoustic rock sound and lyrics that stood apart both from the earlier rock band period and what was to follow as ideas matured; 'Long Story Short' is a collection of songs that combine life lessons of love and family with the wry wit of hindsight from a duo that has been round the block a time or two.
Produced by Matt Searles (Marenghi Beat, Solar Array), 'Long Story Short' has the vibrance of a live performance, garnished slyly with additional instrumentation - including guest strings by Jenny Newton - to deliver a set of songs you can really get your teeth into and walk away singing.
'Long Story Short' is an introduction to The Long Shorts - Long on friendship, short on time, and out to lift your spirits.

The Long Shorts are proud to release their debut EP in both physical and digital formats on Friday 6th December 2024. There will be two launch shows following the release to celebrate and perform the EP in full. Ticket price will include a CD copy of the 'Long Story Short' EP.

The Long Shorts
The Long Shorts are a songwriting duo based in the South of England. Chris & Dan grew up listening to the same classic rock and pop bands before picking up guitars to write songs together in their hometown of Winchester. Life kept them respectively busy for several years before forming the multi-instrumental band early in 2022. Focusing on Chris' songwriting, The Long Shorts play upbeat foot-tapping acoustic rock songs about love and life that'll have you singing along all night.
Marenghi Beat
Two men with a mutual love of Tom Waits and years of musical experience between them. In 2022, they finally got together and made music that sounds nothing like Waits but contains a heady brew of electro, blues and alternative music. Adam plays harmonica and sings. Matt plays acoustic guitar and sings. Utilising crunchy samples and dirty loops, the sound is unlike anything out there right now. Gigging extensively in London and with two albums under their belt, Marenghi Beat are making their mark on the alternative music scene in the UK.Their sophomore album Hot Salad has been compared to early Beck and been described by V13 as “a blend of ‘90s nostalgia, modern blues and electronic flair that’s sure to delight many.”
