A walk through rolling Essex countryside, our route begins through Newport village, crossing the River Cam and then heading for Audley End, one of the finest Jacobean mansions in the country. We'll continue through the medieval market town of Saffron Walden with its narrow cobbled streets and historic buildings (including the Sun Inn, Oliver Cromwell’s headquarters in 1647, also visited by Samuel Pepys).
From here, the route winds gently through pretty countryside and finishes in the peaceful village of Great Chesterford, where there is another train station.
