From Cockfosters tube station, we'll quickly leave London behind and venture onto common land given to the quaintly named village of Monken Hadley after the 17th century enclosure of Enfield Chase.

The route passes through the opulent enclave of Hadley Wood with many grand and gated properties and then out onto rolling Herfordshire hills. After the noise of the M25, we will enter the peaceful Pond and Fir Woods – also originally part of Enfield Chase. Northhaw is a pretty village and makes a pleasant stop for a pint and refreshments before carrying on to Cuffley.
