Celebrating 5 years of the LBBF, the only film festival in the UK dedicated to Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian cinema.
Festival highlights:
Renovation (Lithuania)
UK premiere and the festival opener. Renovation follows Ilona, a 29-year-old perfectionist in Vilnius, whose life and relationships are unsettled as cracks begin to appear, both in her apartment’s facade and in her inner world as she meets a Ukrainian construction worker. The film premiered at this year's Karlovy Vary Film Festival and was selected for its Proxima competition.
Rolling Papers (Estonia)
UK premiere and Estonia’s official submission to the Academy Awards in the International Feature category. Rolling Papers explores the lives of young adults contending with uncertainty, purpose, and identity in a changing world.
Maria’s Silence (Latvia)
UK premiere. Based on the life of Latvian silent-era actress Maria Leiko, this gripping historical drama follows her decision to travel to Stalin’s Russia in 1937—and the consequences of her ideals, sacrifices and silencing.
Toxic (Lithuania)
In a bleak hometown, two teenage girls forge a bond at a local modelling school, where the stakes escalate and their bodies become battlegrounds for aspiration, self-destruction, and escape. Locarno winner and festival darling.
Life and Love (Estonia)
UK premiere. Set in 1933, this lyrical drama charts the journey of a woman who moves to the city and becomes entwined with the owner of a printing house, igniting a love story shaped by social forces and emotional risk.
Youth Eternal (Latvia)
UK premiere. A coming-of-age story about millennials entering the crisis of their thirties, facing self-destructive tendencies before embarking on a journey toward responsibility, connection, and renewal.
EE short films! On Wednesday 12 November, the festival closes with a special Estonian short film showcase, spotlighting the voices from the thriving Estonian short film scene. The short films programme consists of such acclaimed titles as Sauna Day (2024), Manivald (2017), Jungle Law (2024), Body Memory (2011), Winter in March (2025), On Weary Wings Go By (2024), and Miisufy (2023).
