Lochlea Tasting at Diggers Leith
About this Event
We are proud to welcome Lochlea Lowland single malt whisky and brand ambassador Alex Ferrand to Diggers Leith for a tasting of their whiskies.
Lochlea Distillery is a relatively young distillery, with the first spirit flowing on 29 August 2018, but Lochlea Farm has a long history with barley and whisky. Barley has long been grown in the area for cattle feed, and as for the whisky? Well, famed Scots poet Robert Burns lived on the farm as a young man between 1777 and 1784. Need I say more?
Lochlea Distillery grew out of an understanding of the land, and an understanding of the need to diversify for farmers to survive in the modern era. After a successful experiment growing malting barley suitable for whisky production, the family owners decided to quietly build a single malt distillery on the farm utilising the barley grown on the farm. Today, Lochlea continues as a single estate farm distillery, with scale based not on capacity and demand but the yield and quality of the barley harvest. Every cask of Lochlea whisky has been matured on-site. Every glass of Lochlea whisky is a true reflection of the place it was made. A rare example of modern practices implented in a traditional way.
We'll be trying a range of whiskies from this young distillery with a bright future, we'd be delighted if you would join us in this experience.
