About this Event
During this workshop, Kate will share her process on:
- Working with talent and posing
- Finding unique backgrounds and compositions
- Making the most of a single location
- How to use small, portable flash units to create portraits that tell a story
Kate will guide you through a few different demonstrations, allowing attendees the opportunity to work with the model and Profoto lighting.
Attendees will leave this session with more confidence in capturing portraits of people and how they can use off-camera portable flash to provide more options in the work they make.
EXPERIENCE LEVEL:
Photography: Intermediate to Advanced
Lighting: Beginner to Advanced
Attendees should have an understanding of ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, and White Balance and how to change these on their cameras. As well as working with their flash settings in their camera menus.

WHAT TO BRING:
Bring your digital or film camera with a hot shoe and a portrait lens. Kate recommends something between 35mm and 85mm on full-frame cameras (23mm - 56mm on crop sensor cameras). Mirrorless owners, please update your firmware before the event. Camera must be able to do high-speed sync in order to use the lighting. Some models like the Nikon 3000 and 5000 series cameras do not work with this.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Kate Hailey is a Portrait, Lifestyle, and Travel Photographer, currently based in Seattle, WA.
Kate’s love of photography started at a very young age, with artistic and musical influences from both her father and mother, she was bound for creative pursuits. As a teenager, her first job was that of a photo assistant for a commercial photographer, where she began to learn the art of light and creating images for commercial use.
Kate leads workshops, photowalks, and photo tours, focusing on topics she holds dear, from lighting and portraiture, to travel and exploring creative techniques. Check out her most current work on Instagram: @katehailey

In the event of a refund, Eventbrite Fees are not refundable. Eventbrite fees are only refunded if an event is canceled.
We will issue a full refund up to 4 days before the event date; or a 50% refund up to the day of the event, if however we are able to fill the spot, we may issue a full refund. No-shows will not be refunded.
