Mead (Honey Wine) is said to be the first alcoholic beverage of our ancestors. The word shares its root with ‘Medicine’, likely because it was the first suspension for herbs and other healing plants.
In this class we will hear some more of the history and lore of mead and learn how to make a delicious, wild fermented elixir in a way that keeps the integrity of the honey. We’ll learn to use some simple ‘modern’ technologies (like tools to measure alcohol content and bottles with caps) to improve on the techniques while remaining true to the old ways. You can make this ancient “Liveation” from ingredients you may even have in your backyard!
The demonstration includes access to the workshop and a Mead tasting. Participants are invited to meet in 6-12 weeks to help bottle the finished product. Those that can't attend the bottling will have a bottle set aside for them.
