Beginning with the onset of COVID in 2020, Anne Dunham became a pilgrim who walked daily along the Missouri River or Spirit Mound. Anne captured a powerful set of photos in the COVID atmosphere, which kept all human beings elsewhere and out of sight.
Frank Pommersheim also walked this solitary landscape but kept his eye on the call and enchantment of the haiku landscape. He wrote a series of short haiku-like poems that addressed both the inner and outer weather of these fraught times.
Anne and Frank continue this journey in the post-COVID times. This pilgrimage has continued along the banks of the Missouri but has also expanded to such new landscapes as Romania (where Frank’s father was born) and Costa Rica. No matter the weather (inner, outer, spiritual, political), we need 'beauty' because without beauty all comes to naught of this earth. As Albert Camus, the French writer and activist noted, 'In a word, the world's beauty, and not only its injustices, also demands our attention.'
All proceeds will be donated to the Frank Pommersheim Indian Law Scholarship at the University of South Dakota School of Law
