Local Government 101
With the November 3 election approaching, now is a great time to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of the local officials who make decisions that affect our everyday lives!
Join us for LOCAL GOVERNMENT 101 on Wednesday, October 28, from 6:30–7:30 p.m. at The CommunityLink in Shelbyville.
Former Shelbyville Mayor Tom DeBaun will explain the roles and responsibilities of elected officials at the city level, while former County Commissioner Kevin Nigh will help us understand the responsibilities of county elected officials. We’ll also have time for your questions during a Q&A session.
As a special feature, Dr. Matt Vance, Superintendent of Shelbyville Central Schools, will briefly explain what a referendum is and share information about the school system's operating referendum on the November 3 ballot.
This is a nonpartisan educational event. We won’t discuss current candidates or tell anyone how to vote. Our goal is simply to help residents better understand local government, what elected officials can and cannot do in their respective roles, and the issues they may encounter on their ballots.
This event is sponsored by the Shelby County Democrats and is open to anyone interested in learning more about local government.
Come learn, ask questions, and become a more informed voter!
