Local Gold showcases the best and latest original music acts in Canberra.
Your host (lovable local rockstar, Pete Lyon) will MC a show featuring three acts across two hours. It opens with a promising and proven emerging talent and works up to a headline set from a higher profile established favourite. Most acts are local, but there’s nothing more Canberra than welcoming a newcomer..right!
Local Gold is intimate, fun and entertaining, with an emphasis on authentic artistic expression in original contemporary songwriting. So, if you love hearing local talent, new and old, raw or polished, make this a recurring appointment in your calendar!
Appearing:
Bec Taylor and the Lyrebirds - Acoustic set. Bec is local gold! She has a highly respected professional practice as a writer, performer and contributor to Canberra”s vibrant original music scene. A multi-instrumentalist and skilled song writer, she has toured nationally with her bands Bec Taylor and the Lyrebirds (Bec Taylor and The Lyrebirds | Instagram, Facebook | Linktree ) and Hashemoto, and previously Glitoris, and Fun Machine. She has recording credits on multiple studio albums, and has won critical acclaim for her songwriting. Her performances deliver melodic, naturally-flowing musical mastery that is both rhythmic and contemplative, with a solid pop edge.
Jeff Thompson leads and writes for the band “Jason Recliner” who, for well over a decade, have put their unique, chaotic spin on the “alt” and the “country” in alt-country. At first, Jeff appears charmingly simple with an irreverent larrikin edge and, TBH, closer examination usually confirms that…but look even harder and you’ll see poetic mastery, an exquisite authenticity, and a mix of light and dark lurking beneath his catchy melodies and short snappy pop songs.
Ariana Strmota is a singer-songwriter from Canberra who started her performance journey back in 2014 while studying music at CIT. After taking a few years off from performing to travel and pursue other passions, she is now back in Canberra and ready to perform again! With musical inspirations from the likes of Missy Higgins and Sam Buckingham, she brings a stripped back acoustic sound that lets her voice tell her stories.
