Join LAVA for film screenings every 2nd Thursday! This summer's focus is on local filmmakers. Sept. 11 will feature Dien Vo and another filmmaker TBA.
Dien Vo is a filmmaker and Visiting Assistant Professor in Film Production at Mount Holyoke College. He previously taught and developed film programs at the University at Buffalo (SUNY), Virginia Tech, and Bard College at Simon’s Rock. He works as a director, writer, producer, and editor.
Dien will screen excerpts from:
• LIVE Now: BirdTV (documentary short). LIVE bird cams and the people who love them
• An Occurrence (fiction short). A distant, culturally-mixed family attempts a ceremonial day together. Lifelong emotions surface through small gestures, while the world around them keeps changing and carries on.
• Images of a historic powder horn in 360 degree imaging
• Let Them Have Their Way (feature fiction film). Three couples search for connection and meaning in an angry, anxious, and polarized world. Uniquely combining an expressionist and pop art style with hundreds of found footage clips, the film is a journey through the sights and sounds of consumerism, advertising, and self-help culture. A hybrid remix work blending fiction and documentary while testing the limits of Fair Use as rarely seen before.
