When a down-and-out artist receives a box of paint from a mysterious traveling salesman, his fortunes begin to shift. He soon realizes—against his better judgment—that the paint itself is responsible for his success, and he becomes consumed by the need to uncover its secret ingredient. As fame and notoriety close in, his output turns feverish and hollow, driven by compulsion rather than passion, carrying him ever higher into the suffocating clouds of celebrity.
