Some of you may know that Mighty Squirrel Productions was set to host Lizzy Plotkin & The Ditchwalkers in late November of 2025. We were headed toward a sell out when 10 days prior to the concert Lizzy received some devastating health news and the show was postponed. With tons of support from family, friends, doctors and nurses – plus TONS of fight – Lizzy is now back to playing music again and we couldn’t be happier to present this concert!
If you haven’t been to the 1920s red brick Coaldale Schoolhouse before you are in for a big treat. We think it is the BEST listening room around and because of its intimacy we will cap seating at 90. Doors will open at 1:15 for the 2 pm matinee; if any tickets remain they’ll be available at the door for $25 ~ advance tix are $20, available here: https://www.mightysquirrelproductions.com/.../lizzy...
Though she grew up in the “music mecca” of Nashville, TN (her father Stephen moved there in the late 1970s to become a professional musician after being encouraged by the legendary violinist Vassar Clements), Lizzy has called the Gunnison Valley home since 2010, where she soon discovered “the small but mighty mountain bluegrass jam scene of the Western Slope”. Having played violin since age 4 (adding banjo and guitar later) she immersed herself in that scene and in 2012 co-founded the CO folk trio Free the Honey. They were a MIGHTY force and would release three records, reach #1 on the folk DJ charts with their album Fine Bloom and performed nationwide til 2016.
Released in 2019, Lizzy's debut album, "We Will Sing", synthesized a lifetime of music and experience. It is a gem of a recording, as her soulful, expressive voice ties the songs together to create an organic and uplifting meditation on the human experience.
Originally from Colorado, Matt and Madeline both hold Bachelor of Music degrees from University of Colorado and Master of Music degrees from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. From 2016 - 2023, Matt and Madeline taught and performed music in Shanghai, China.
In their debut album, The Aim Was Song, Matt and Madeline weave together elements of American folk music, bluegrass and jazz. The eleven original compositions are based on poems by the renowned and much-loved American poet, Robert Frost, each animated into song by Matt and Madeline’s rich vocal blend, cohesive string sound, and intricate layers of percussion.
