Seminar | 'Living Life Like An Actor' with Gen Samten Kelsang
What if the secret to inner peace lay not in perfecting the roles you play—parent, professional, partner, friend—but in recognizing that you are fundamentally none of these things? Drawing from the profound teachings on emptiness found in Modern Buddhism, this seminar offers a revolutionary yet practical approach to daily life: learning to live like an actor on the stage of existence.
Just as a skilled actor inhabits a character fully while never forgetting their true nature, we can engage wholeheartedly with our responsibilities and relationships while maintaining the freedom that comes from not clinging to these temporary identities. This is not about detachment or diminished caring—it’s about discovering a lightness and flexibility that allows us to play each role with greater skill, compassion, and joy.The Buddha taught that our suffering stems largely from grasping at a solid, permanent self that doesn’t actually exist. When we believe “I am” our job title, our achievements, our failures, or our fixed personality traits, we trap ourselves in a prison of our own making. But there’s wonderful news: this prison has no walls except the ones we imagine.
In this seminar, you’ll discover how the ancient wisdom of emptiness translates into immediate, tangible freedom in your modern life. You’ll learn to recognize when you’re over-identifying with a role, how to step back without stepping out, and how to maintain genuine presence while holding your identities lightly—appearing clearly in the world whilst understanding that the “you” performing these roles is more fluid and spacious than you ever imagined.
