About this Event

We invite you for a celebration of the Living Laboratory programme at a showcase event on Friday 19th June at the Teaching & Learning Centre, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus.

Bringing together colleagues and partners from academia, healthcare, industry and the local community, the day will celebrate the exceptional people, ideas and collaborations that have defined the Living Laboratory. It will highlight the impact of this work for patients, the NHS, and communities across Glasgow, and provide an opportunity to reflect on the legacy created together.

What can you expect?

The day will begin with an Insight & Impact Exhibition - an interactive experience that will feature artwork, videos, posters, and first-hand insights from the Living Laboratory core team and partners.

This is followed by a series of themed sessions exploring key areas of the programme, including:

Enabling Innovation and Growth
We examine how the Living Laboratory creates the conditions for innovation to emerge, develop and scale, enabling collaboration, reducing barriers and supporting economic value. Speakers include John Nolan (SQW), Allan Sheffield (myDNA), and Andrew Robertson (Glasgow City Council) - with more to be announced.

Delivering Innovation in Real‑World Healthcare
We dive into how innovation is implemented in practice, focusing on what it takes to move from research into real-world clinical settings and embed change. Speakers include Prof Matthew Walters (University of Glasgow), Prof Sandosh Padmanabhan (University of Glasgow), and Dr Katriona Brooksbank (NHS GGC) - with more to be announced.

Building Skills, Talent and Future Participation
We are joined by Dr Susie Mitchell (University of Glasgow), Robert Anderson (Glasgow Clyde College), and Georgina Aitchison (University of Glasgow) to examine how engagement activity supports innovation by building awareness, skills and pathways into future participation and workforce capability.

Connecting the Insights
We bring together insights from across the day to identify the common factors that enable innovation to work in practice.

Positioning the Future
Our Programme Director, Dr Ruth McLaughlin, is joined by Michael King (University of Glasgow) and Prof Jesse Dawson (NHS GGC) to position the Living Laboratory within institutional and regional strategy, highlighting opportunities for growth, sustainability and future development.

We hope you can join us for a day of reflection and celebration as we recognise the programme’s legacy and look ahead to how its partnerships, learning, and achievements can continue to grow and shape future innovation.
