About this Event

Thriving Glasgow – Creating a Sustainable Future

What does it take to build a city where people and place can truly thrive?

In 2021, a team of researchers, led by Jaime Toney, Professor in Environmental and Climate Science, set out across Glasgow to explore how the city can become a home to thriving communities, while respecting both human wellbeing and planetary health.

Join us as she shares key insights and progress from over five years of civic collaboration across the city, shaping a healthier, fairer and more sustainable future for Glasgow - and be part of the conversation about what still needs to happen.

(In collaboration with Glasgow Science Festival)

Agenda:

16:00 -16:30 – Welcome and talk from Jaime Toney

16:30 -17:00 - Audience discussion and Q&A

17:00 -17:30 - Drinks

About Jaime:

Professor Jaime Toney is and environmental and climate scientist who leads the £11m research project, GALLANT: Glasgow as a Living Lab Accelerating Novel Transformation, funded as part of the UK’s Natural Environment Research Council’s (NERC) strategic programme. She also co-leads the Scotland spoke of the MACC (Maximising UK Adaptation for Climate Change) Hub. Her recent work focuses on systems approaches for sustainable solutions and puts co-production and partnership working at the core. She is passionate about enabling action and building capacity for transformative change towards sustainable futures.

The ‘Thriving Glasgow’ talk focuses on addressing the city’s key environmental challenges, while considering the co-benefits and trade-offs for public health, wellbeing, and the economy. This builds on the Thriving Glasgow Portrait, a co-created, shared vision of Glasgow as a thriving city that provides a framework for keeping social and ecological priorities in consideration during decision-making processes.
