Throughout September, the historic Welsh Chapel, Lind Road, Sutton will host Everyday Histories of Sutton New Town (1860–1910), an exhibition uncovering the lives of the ordinary people who built our neighbourhood.
Discover Victorian and Edwardian Sutton through rare photographs, advertisements and newspaper stories, and meet the workers, tradespeople, families and campaigners whose lives shaped the streets we know today.
� And don’t miss our special Living History Day on Saturday 26th September!
� 1 pm, Meet Captain Tom Dudley, the Cannibal Captain of Sutton New Town
Dudley lived in Myrtle Road, but became infamous after the wreck of the Mignonette. Come and hear the grisly truth about survival at sea and the fate of his young cabin boy.
� 2 pm, Should Women Have the Vote?
Hear a lively debate between Hon. Thomas Allnutt Brassey, Liberal candidate for Mid Surrey, and Miss Marie Brackenbury, artist and campaigner for women’s suffrage. Who will persuade you?
