About this Event
A Spring of Water welling up to Eternal Life’: Encountering Jesus at the well
Join us for this special day of prayer and quiet reflection for Lent based on the profoundly transformative encounter between Jesus and the woman at the well in St John’s Gospel. The day is led by Canon Dr Sally Harper and Liz Shields, Cathedral Lay Reader.
‘If only you knew the gift of God!’
This contemplative day in the Lady Chapel offers the chance to reflect on the long conversation Jesus had with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well (John 4: 1-42), and to notice how it transformed her. (This same passage will also be read as the Gospel at the Sunday 10.30 Eucharist on 22 March, and will be the theme of the ‘deep-dive’ Cathedral Bible Study, ‘Encountering God in John’, during this week.)
Through guided reflections using visual images and water, imaginative prayer, personal time for reflection, and optional sharing, you’ll be invited to pause at the well yourself, as we listen, and reflect. All you need is an open heart to ponder how God might be calling each one of us to encounter Jesus in this quiet space, and be transformed through prayerful reflection and conversation.
The day will include:
- Three guided reflections
- Plenty of time for silent reflection
- An opportunity to attend the midday Eucharist at 12.05 and Evensong at 3:00 pm
Price: £10 to cover costs
Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day, starting at 10:00 am. Please bring your own lunch or enjoy a meal at the Cathedral’s Welsford Bistro.
Places are limited, so early booking is essential.
We look forward to welcoming you to this peaceful and reflective day.
